John A. Zachman joins the Board of LEADing Practice
The father of today's Enterprise Architecture and Enterprise Ontology thinking, joins the Board of the largest Enterprise Standard organization.
"The Enterprise Architecture discipline has too low of a mature level, it is way too siloed and it is focusing way too little about architecting the enterprise." The reason I therefore have joined the Board of Directors and thereby the work, is that I want to help and participate in creating the next level and new breed of Enterprise Standards that both define Enterprise Architecture, with fully integrated ontology, semantic relations and artifacts, that will benefit the industry as a whole. Enterprise Architecture needs to enable innovation and transformation across the enterprise, not only IT.

The board is tasked, under the direction of Professor Mark von Rosing with developing a new breed of Enterprise Standards by strengthening the interconnection of Enterprise Modelling, Enterprise Engineering and Enterprise Architecture disciplines. It is more than 30 years ago since John Zachman in 1982 created the first concepts around Enterprise Architecture in the public domain. Since then, various different enterprise architecture frameworks (EA frameworks) have been developed.
At present, there is a tremendous proliferation of architecture frameworks; hundreds are in current or recent use, and new ones are being created. Architects, architecting organizations and enterprises need ways to understand, choose and adapt architecture frameworks for their use.

Together with the Global University Alliance the standards organizations ISO, IEEE, CSIR and OMG, John Zachman will participate in largest and most comprehensive Enterprise Architecture research project to solicit information and research into basis for the comparison, assessment, and selection of architecture frameworks and their evolution as architecting as a practice matures. John Arthur Zachman is the father of Enterprise Architecture and Enterprise Ontology thinking today. Originator of the “Framework for Enterprise Architecture” (The Zachman Framework™), which has received broad acceptance around the world as an integrative framework, an ontology for descriptive representations for Enterprises.
Executive Director of FEAC Institute (Federated Enterprise Architecture Certification Institute) awarding certifications in DoDAF (Department of Defense Architecture Framework), FEAF (Federal Enterprise Architecture Framework) and Zachman (Zachman Ontology).
Author of numerous books, articles and publications including seminal articles on Enterprise Architecture and teacher and apologist for the Ontological approach versus Methodological approaches for Enterprise Architecture. Co-author of “The Complete Business Process Handbook Volume 2: Extended Business Process Management.
Mr. Zachman is not only known for this work on Enterprise Architecture, but is also known for his early contributions to IBM’s Information Strategy methodology (Business Systems Planning) as well as to their Executive team planning techniques (Intensive Planning). Mr. Zachman retired from IBM in 1990, having served them for 26 years. He is the Founder and Chairman of his own education and consulting business, Zachman International®.
Mr. Zachman serves on the Executive Council for Information Management and Technology (ECIMT) of the United States Government Accountability Office (GAO) and on the Advisory Board of the Data Administration Management Association International (DAMA-I) from whom he was awarded the 2002 Lifetime Achievement Award. He was awarded the 2009 Enterprise Architecture Professional Lifetime Achievement Award from the Center for Advancement of the Enterprise Architecture Profession as well as the 2004 Oakland University, Applied Technology in Business (ATIB), Award for IS Excellence and Innovation.
